In the all-important Junior School years which incorporate Prep through to Year 6, children have an insatiable need to learn.
Since 1994, the Junior School at West Moreton Anglican College has built a reputation for caring and innovative teaching where learning is fostered in an environment that encourages creative, critical thinking and where children are also encouraged to take responsibility for their learning.
Under the direction of the Head and Deputy Head of Junior School, educational programs have been designed to place emphasis on the mastering of skills, both intellectual and physical as well as the development of personal values based on a Christian way of life. While West Moreton Anglican College Junior School emphasises literacy and numeracy as the keys to future academic success, a large and diverse range of academic subjects is available to cater to intellectual hunger.
Students who are achieving beyond their age are challenged to extend their thinking through a variety of enrichment tasks that recognise different learning styles and the existence of multiple intelligences.
Children who require more support to reach their potential are catered for through a variety of intervention methods coordinated by the learning support team.
In addition to the classroom teacher, pastoral care is provided through the House System. This is a vertical integration system whereby children from the same family will be assigned to a "House" for the duration of their stay. Each of the five houses has a House Coordinator who plays an important role in the pastoral care and behaviour management of each student.
A comprehensive sports and activities program complements the academic program in the Junior School. Over 20 sports and 35 activities are offered (most are free of charge) to children either on a tri-mester basis or throughout the year. In addition, a sequential outdoor education program develops and builds a range of outdoor skills starting in Prep and continuing throughout the Junior School years.
