Design & Technology

The Nature of Design & Technology

Design & Technology draws on the Queensland Schools Curriculum Council’s newly prepared Subject Area Syllabus in Technology, and is intended to provide students with a greater opportunity to develop knowledge and skills through creative processes and problem-solving activities.  The range of learning experiences has been enhanced through the introduction of new areas of investigation such as electronics, pneumatics and welding.

The Value of Studying Design & Technology

Design & Technology embodies the practical application and interplay of visual communication, processes, materials, systems, information and ideas manifested by purposeful outcomes.  It includes the structures, implements, machinery and devices that we use to better our human condition.  It offers learners a context through which they may develop an understanding of the concepts, that design and technology are used to satisfy human needs and wants, and extend human capability.  Learners will develop knowledge through exposure to both the design process and to the broad world of technology, influencing and being influenced, by social environmental, economic and cultural factors.
