About the Role

As a newly designed position, the Junior School Library & eLiteracies Teacher will work collaboratively with the Knowledge and Learning Resources Manager, the Deputy Head of Junior School (Curriculum) and Junior School classroom teachers, to develop and deliver integrated information literacy, critical thinking and digital pedagogy units for students from Prep to Year 6, as well as continue to develop a positive reading culture among our students

This will include supporting the implementation of the general capability framework (particularly as relevant to information skills, critical literacy and digital literacy) across the College and being part of a dynamic team of Innovators who will promote an energetic service environment whereby students and staff have access to a diverse range of physical and digital resources to suit their needs.

This is a full-time (term time), permanent teaching position, commencing asap but no later than the start of Term 1 of 2025.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing & delivering engaging, relevant and dynamic units of work that support classroom curriculum with regards to information skills, digital literacy and critical thinking skills across Prep to Year 6, using SchoolBox (LMS) to provision the digital learning environment for timetabled classes and in support of classroom teachers.

  • Demonstrating teaching practices that reflect innovative pedagogy in teaching and learning, and advocate higher order questioning, critical and creative thinking, problem solving and digital literacy skills.
  • Forming and maintaining positive, effective working relationships with College staff, students and the extended community.
  • Assisting teachers to embed good quality literature into units of work, including recommending and sourcing mentor texts.
  • Promoting a passion for reading through Library based initiatives that may include reading circles, author visits and competitions.
  • Working with the Library and Junior School teams to promote annual Book Week activities.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to design and deliver targeted technology training and professional development that builds staff confidence and capability to more effectively utilise technology in order to improve student engagement and performance.
  • Working with teaching teams to provide tailored, in class and structured learning opportunities to enhance teacher capacity and support a deeper understanding of how to utilise technology and books to improve student educational outcomes.
  • Engaging in curriculum planning meetings with relevant leaders and teaching teams in the Junior School to help develop well-resourced units of work.
  • Contributing to the Ipswich District Teacher Librarian Network and/or similar groups.
  • Assisting in the development and delivery of an information literacies curriculum framework for the College that will allow for the requisite skills of 21st century learners to be delivered in a developmentally appropriate and sequential way.
  • Providing advice and supporting teachers to use and design learning challenges that purposefully use technology to engage students by working directly in classrooms, team teaching and coaching.
  • Supporting teacher professional development through a variety of means – face-to-face interaction, provision of papers and professional reading and development of online resources to provide access in a ‘need-it-now’ context.
The successful candidate will possess:
  • Appropriate tertiary degree(s) including teaching qualification (essential)
  • Must be registered or eligible for registration in Queensland as a teacher
  • Relevant further study in librarianship, digital learning or similar (desirable)
  • Current school-based experience within the P-6 range
  • Solid understanding of the Australian Curriculum, with particular focus on the General Capabilities
  • Experience in designing / delivering a curriculum focused on critical thinking and digital literacy skills in a student-centred model across a variety of year levels
  • Demonstrated excellence in utilising technology effectively for teaching and learning
  • Proven research skills utilising a variety of information sources
  • Strong organisational skills and a high level of attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively and as part of a wider team
  • Ability to initiate, innovate and adapt curriculum and services to meet changing requirements
  • Recognition and understanding of the requirements for student protection
  • Demonstrated experience with Learning Management Systems (SchoolBox experience an advantage)
  • Demonstrated experience in an innovative information service (desirable)
