Sophie Salvesani stole the hearts of fans at the Sydney Opera House last week in a thrilling performance as ‘Maria’ in West Side Story. Nobody was more excited to meet with Sophie than Anita Casalanguida and daughter Charlotte McConnell, both from West Moreton Anglican College where Sophie was a student. “She was a beautiful soul, spending time to chat with us after the show was something special. And her voice had a wow factor,” enthused Anita as she spoke about how the Soprano was kind enough to pose for pictures back stage and even accepted an invitation to lunch the following day.

Last year Sophie performed the role of Mabel in the Toowoomba Empire Theatre’s production of The Pirates of Penzance and completed the Pacific Opera’s 2018 Young Artist Program. Following this success, Sophie was cast by the Australian Opera and GWB Entertainment as Maria in their latest international touring production of West Side Story currently performing at the Sydney Opera House until early October.
