Students take in the spectacular views
Students take in the spectacular views

What better way to spend the school holidays than on top of the cool snowy mountains of Queenstown? WestMAC’s Year 12 students did just that and made the most of their break last week. The 2019 WestMAC Ski Trip was a fantastic opportunity for Year 12 students to experience a white winter in a different country, learn new and exciting skills, and challenge themselves to practice these skills on the ski slopes of New Zealand. Students and staff returned rejuvenated after five days of skiing across three different ski fields in Queenstown mixed with a lot of fun, exciting and new cultural experiences.

WestMAC teacher and trip coordinator Michael Bickerton said he was pleased with the outcome of the trip. “The students displayed resilience and a positive attitude in the face of the planned (and unplanned) challenges that arose across the week. All in all, students and staff had a wonderful time away and look forward to a week of rest before Term 4 starts."

A highlight for Michael was watching students conquer their fears. “Some had just completed a blue slope they'd been nervous about trying; completing the run without falling had been a huge confidence boost for them and they were excited to continue challenging themselves throughout the week. Watching resilience and confidence grow in students is a delight”.

A huge congratulations to all staff and students who attended on the success of this year’s ski trip.
