Early Learning Aide
This role is Part-time (0.8FTE Monday to Thursday), Term Time + 1 week, commencing Term 1, 2026. The annual base rate will be pro-rated accordingly.
We are looking for an experienced Early Learning Aide to assist the Prep to Year 2 teachers in providing an innovative and challenging educational program for all students.
The aide must be sensitive to the needs and abilities of the students requiring support and offer support and encouragement for students to develop independence.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide a wide range of support and assistance to both the teacher and students, in the classroom or beyond, as needed. This could include presenting information, monitoring verbal and non-verbal student responses, answering questions, supervising groups and individual learning activities, assisting students to find materials.
- Assist with student supervision, either in classroom, at bus area or more generally, as directed by the teacher.
- Prepare resources for learning activities such as administration tasks, photocopying, development of resources, etc.
- Prepare, store, make available and clear away teaching equipment and materials.
- Listen to students’ reading and implement reading intervention strategies, facilitate reading groups and one-on-one reading coaching and learning support.
- Contribute to the welfare, health and safety of students including delivery of first aid, testing of blood glucose levels or monitoring of Diabetes.
- Assist students with toileting.
- Assist students with additional needs, such as move disabled pupils, assist with positioning, meal-time assistance, toileting and dressing of pupils unable to care for themselves.
- Assist teachers and students with sporting activities and school excursions, supervise small or large groups of students outside the school, conduct tours of destinations, monitor student completion of excursion-related learning activities, constant surveillance of surroundings to ensure student safety.
- Participate in extracurricular activities such as overnight camps, intra-school sport or after school student elective activities.
- Attend staff meetings, liaise with teaching staff re daily operational issues, and short or long-term strategic planning.
- Parent liaison including face to face contact and recollection or sourcing of specific student related information.
- Plan and attend meetings with staff and parents of students.
- Management and stock take of equipment and resources.
- Maintain anecdotal records on students for use in reviewing student’s development.
- Implement computer assisted learning strategies with students and use the software programs to support their learning.
- Administrative duties to assist in typing teacher’s notes and work programs, photocopy materials, check bus lists, compile student results records, help organise off-site activities.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Certificate III or better in Education Support, or equivalent Teacher Aide studies, or a commitment to acquire or update qualifications.
- Current First Aid Certificate including CPR and/or student-specific health procedures.
- Experience working in a similar position (essential).
- Proven ability to display respect and empathy for students, especially those with learning needs.
- Ability to communicate effectively, display high level of interpersonal skills, function as an effective team member, work with small groups or individuals, support teachers in providing learning materials for students at risk.
- Clear understanding of the need for confidentiality, reliability and tact when dealing with students and families.
- Flexibility and a high level of patience and an ability to establish a rapport with all students.
- Willing to assist students with physical impairments in managing personal hygiene.
- Effective written and oral communication skills and telephone technique, able to communicate clearly and effectively with a variety of people.
- Solid understanding and appreciation of Child Safe legislation, cultural safety and compliance requirements.
- Willingness to undertake specific training to enhance student support as necessary.
- Proven ability to work as a constructive team member, demonstrated professional and courteous manner toward students, parents, visitors, staff and other members of the public.
- Ability to meet prioritised workloads within limited time and attend to simultaneous and numerous requests for assistance.
- Intermediate computer-based skills in MS Word and Excel, ability to quickly acquire skill in using TASS and the College’s intranet and email along with photocopiers etc.
