Grounds Person

We are seeking a motivated, reliable, and team-oriented Grounds Person to join our Facilities & Maintenance team on a full-time basis.

In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining sports fields, gardens, surrounding grounds, and recreation/sporting facilities, as well as assisting the Team Leader – Facilities with the maintenance and upkeep of College facilities.

Please note that this position may require occasional after-hours and Saturday work to support College events and sporting activities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain gardens and grounds to a high standard.
  • Perform various day to day maintenance tasks of the College grounds.  
  • Assist with the opening and lock up of facilities.
  • Provide courteous customer service when dealing with members of the public and internal clients.
  • Assist with and carry out general repairs and maintenance works to buildings and equipment.
  • Carry out deliveries and assist other duties as needed. e.g. movement of furniture.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the on-site swimming pool.
  • Assist with traffic control on College property as required.
  • Complete routine maintenance and landscaping projects as required.
  • Carry out emergency procedure duties in the event of a Fire Evacuation or Lockdown at the College.
  • Prepare and setup for events, functions and sporting events.  This may include preparation of sporting fields, movement of furniture and equipment and other necessary duties as directed.
  • Operate equipment such as lawn mowers, leaf vacuum/blowers, brush cutters, tractors, motor vehicles and other equipment.
  • Participate in continuous improvement processes, consistent with the principles of quality and customer service. In conjunction with other members of the grounds team, initiate and implement improvements in work practices.
  • Be aware of hazardous substances, environmental, water and noise regulations.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Competency in the safe operation of all types of machinery and equipment used in daily activities.
  • Sound mechanical aptitude including experience in the operation of small plant and equipment.
  • Understanding of workplace health and safety practices.
  • Knowledge in horticulture, sports grounds, turf and landscape maintenance (desirable).
  • Chainsaw Operators licence (desirable).
  • Chemical Handlers accreditation (desirable).
  • Successful completion of tractor/front end loader course (desirable).
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team environment under limited supervision.
  • Be physically fit to be able to fulfill the requirements of the role.
  • Have a solid understanding and appreciation of Child Safe legislation, cultural safety and compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Good customer service skills and ability to provide prompt attention.
