People & Culture Business Partner

We are seeking an experienced permanent, full-time People & Culture Business Partner who is an HR generalist at heart, with a passion for supporting others to do the best they can in an environment that brings the best out of them. 

Reporting to the Manager - People & Culture, you will be extensively involved in using your detailed understanding and experience of all facets of people management to partner with middle leaders across the College, to assist them to navigate people-related issues with successful outcomes. 

Supported by your intuitive ability to build effective relationships in a dynamic, ever-changing environment, and the drive to make a difference to the success of others, you will be instrumental in supporting general people activities, projects and practices that impact the success of both the College and its team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Partner with school leaders to deliver both strategic and hands-on operational People & Culture support across the full employee lifecycle.
  • Provide expert, practical advice and coaching on employee relations, including performance, conduct, and complex workplace matters, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Lead day-to-day HR operations including recruitment, onboarding, workforce planning, and offboarding, ensuring smooth and compliant processes.
  • Ensure compliance with industrial legislation, Enterprise Agreements, Awards, and student protection requirements (e.g. Blue Card, mandatory training).
  • Oversee HR systems, reporting, and governance, including workforce analytics, compliance reporting, and WorkCover/rehabilitation coordination.

The ideal candidate will be a team player who has strong organisational and interpersonal skills, along with a collaborative and empathetic approach. You will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources or relevant discipline.
  • Extensive generalist HR experience in a similar position. Experience in an educational environment would be highly regarded.
  • Knowledge and working experience of contemporary industrial relations.
  • Solid understanding and appreciation of Child Safe legislation, cultural safety and compliance requirements.

  • Proven critical thinking skills with the ability to manage and effectively resolve complex employee issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Excellent communication and people skills, with demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive, professional relationships through the art of effectively informing, influencing or persuading stakeholders at all levels.
  • Diligent, with a high drive to take initiative and ownership, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively as needed.
  • Strong organisational skills, with an understanding of sense of urgency whilst managing competing demands and the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Understanding of the need for and ability to manage sensitive and confidential information appropriately and with discretion.
  • Professional, customer-service mind-set with a flexible and resilient approach.
  • Solid understanding of the need for, and proven ability to maintain appropriate record keeping.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products.
  • Previous experience in the implementation and/or use of an HR Information System would be advantageous.
