Student Experiences
Education beyond the classroom
At WestMAC, our learning environment is strategically designed to offer a wealth of opportunities for your child to find their unique place in the world. An essential part of this experience is our Student Experience Programs, which provide students with an unmatched offering of enriching opportunities beyond the classroom.
Whether your child is pursuing the arts, a particular sport, or a special interest, they will find a number of opportunities to suit their passions and help them discover new talents.
Sport
Our Sporting Program is a cornerstone of student life at WestMAC. We offer more than 20 sports, with many included in the TAS competition, which ensures our students can officially compete against other students at various levels. Our goal is to not only nurture naturally gifted students, but to encourage every child to participate and pursue individual excellence. We know that promoting an active lifestyle leads to a cohort of balanced, healthy and happy students, which is why we ensure our Sporting Program remains broad and inclusive.
Sport at WestMAC begins in Prep with our Eaglets Program, followed by Junior TAS (Years 3–6) and TAS (Years 7–12) weekly inter-school fixtures. Students can also trial for representative teams through the Western Ranges District, with pathways to regional, state and national levels. Whether playing for fun or aiming for elite competition, every student has the chance to grow, compete and thrive.
Our College boasts extensive modern sporting facilities, including a heated swimming pool, three dedicated sports fields, a multipurpose hall, state-of-the-art cricket nets, and turf and synthetic cricket wickets. We also have recently renovated indoor and outdoor multi-court complexes for tennis, basketball, netball and volleyball. Our Keswick Road courts are fully equipped with night lights for twilight training and are a covered four-court facility that provides shade and shelter, allowing students to play and train comfortably in all seasons.

Athlete development
If your child is aspiring to compete at an elite level in their chosen sport, it's essential they receive high-level coaches, facilities and individualised support. Established in 2020, our Athlete Development Program is designed to nurture exceptional student athletes. Through targeted athletic conditioning and mentoring, the program supports their development not only physically, but also socially and emotionally — building well-rounded, resilient individuals both on and off the field.
Through a challenging and rewarding program, your child will be supported to excel with an individualised training regime that includes:
- personalised strength and conditioning training
- specialised skill development
- sport-focused education
- professional coaching and training within their chosen sport
- exposure to a multi-faceted approach to professional sport
- targeted support to encourage students to reach their full potential as athletes, while promoting academic success.
Program curriculum delivery
The Athlete Development Program runs from Years 7 to 10. It replaces core HPE in Year 7 and becomes an elective from Years 8 to 10 (in addition to core HPE). Students participate in four classes per fortnight in Years 7 and 8, and five per fortnight in Years 9 and 10. The curriculum combines both theoretical and practical learning.
For more information, please email our Head of Athlete Development, Nicholas Barling.
Creative Arts
Dance
The WestMAC Dance Program provides exceptional opportunities for gifted dancers to explore their passion and creativity through dedicated ensembles. Starting in Year 3, students can audition for entry into specialised dance ensembles, where they experience a supportive and committed community. Each ensemble is led by experienced choreographers, providing our dancers the opportunity to develop their skills in a range of genres, including Contemporary, Hip-Hop, Musical Theatre, Jazz and Student Choreography.
The Student Experience ensembles complement the curriculum Dance Program and rehearse weekly outside of school hours. Our ensembles perform at various local and regional Eisteddfods, and the annual Dance Showcase. Our aim is to not only develop the technical skills of our dancers but also foster a safe environment for building lasting friendships and lifelong skills.
Music
At WestMAC, music is an integral part of College life. From music in the Junior School to fostering excellence onstage, every WestMAC student has the opportunity to develop performance skills, share their talents and experience the thrill of an audience’s applause.
