Hair and Makeup Volunteers Sought

Mrs Robyn Colton, Costume Manager for the upcoming WestMAC Musical “Sweet Charity”, is looking for parent/ Alumni volunteers who are available to come to College in Term 2, either Week 1 (Wed 22/Thurs 23 April), or Week 2 (27 April – 1 May), during our lunch hour (1.00 – 1.45 pm), to conduct workshops to train those students appointed to hair/makeup duties for the Musical.

Ideally, volunteers will be hairdressers or someone with substantial experience doing hairstyles of the 60s (i.e. beehives/ bouffant etc.), and who can demonstrate to the students how to do these styles.

In addition, the same or other volunteers will ideally have training and/or experience with make-up of the 60s (i.e. Mary Quant look etc.)

If you are able to assist in this way and can be at College during the lunch times (or you can record a short demonstration video for us to follow), please contact Robyn ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it )regarding your availability.

Thankyou in advance for any assistance that can be provided.

A busy time for WestMAC debaters

It is a very busy but a very successful time of year for our debating students.

Madeline Toft, Year 10, is the newly selected Member for Warrego in the YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament.  Her older sister Georgia, a 2014 WestMAC Alumnus, is one of the state organisers (and who, we might add, plays no part in the selection process).

Amaris Moxon, Year 12, won both the Public Speaking and Overall Awards at the Ipswich Region Lions Youth of the Year Quest.

Rachel Foy, Year 11, was Runner-up in the Somerset Region Lions Youth of the Year Quest.

Grace Bell and Matthew Simmons, Year 10, attended the recent United Nations Youth Australia Queensland State Conference and Camp.

Chloe Boike, Year 11, is participating in the Ipswich Mayor’s Youth Speech Competition.

We also have five teams competing in the Ipswich Primary Schools’ Debating Competition and nine teams participating in the Apex Competition, with almost all teams coached by alumni or current students from Years 9 to 12. WestMAC alumni are also responsible for running Apex’s Competition and are part of the adjudicating team.

Congratulations to Mrs Donna Googe, the Debating and Public Speaking Coordinator, and all of the students involved for their fabulous achievements.

Ella and Laura excel in the pool

We have two Queensland School State Swimming Champions at WestMAC.

Ella Ramsay (11 Years Girls) won Gold in the 50m Fly to become State Champion.

Laura Brosnan (15 Years Girls) won Gold in the 200m Fly to become State Champion, as well as Silver in the 200m Freestyle, Bronze in the 400 Individual Medley and Bronze in the 100m Fly.

Congratulations to Ella and Laura from everyone in the WestMAC Community!

Ad Clerum - Vanuatu Appeal

Many of us will have watched the fury of Cyclone Pam spiralling over the Pacific, from the comfort of our lounge rooms.

Sadly, the nation of Vanuatu have experienced that fury first-hand, losing homes, schools, hospitals and most tragically, human life.  Vanuatu is a developing nation where life for many is a struggle in ways that we do not easily understand, and into this place of vulnerability and insecurity Cyclone Pam has wreaked dreadful havoc.

Our Archbishop, the Most Reverend Dr Philip Aspinall has challenged us to join the Anglican Board of Missions campaign to raise much needed emergency funds for the people of Vanuatu.  Links are provided below…. Please be generous.
